Seeking to get one’s vehicle insured is nothing new. Insurance protects one’s investment in the insured property in case of damage, theft or any other loss. However, the thing about insurance is that companies are very hesitant to provide insurance for property that needs it the most. Thus, when it comes to insurance one’s vehicle, few drivers have the kind of trouble that quad bikers do.
Quad bikes have become something of a biking phenomenon – previously enjoyed purely as a sport and that too on a highly specialized type of track – it is now used by a majority of teens on the roads, on private farms, trekking trails and just about every where. One of the reasons quad bikes are loved is the fact that they really CAN be used anywhere – it’s like a mini ATV.
Until sometime back these niches machine had a lot of trouble getting insured, simply because companies didn’t know enough about them. This makes insurers wary since they don’t know what the chances are of them having to pay out. Some even claimed that quad bikes are illegal for road use. However, we can dispel all these myths now.
Myth:1
Quad bikes can be used for road driving and hence cannot be insured against damage in road accidents
Fact:
They can, provided they are tweaked around, to make them safe for the rider and for other vehicles on the road. This means they need to be fitted with head lamps, tail lamps, indicators, rear view mirrors, brake lights and a speedometer. The riders need to be wearing helmets at all times and must be over the age of 17. If a quad bike (and its rider) meets these criteria, then quad bikes are quite legal and will be passed by the MOT. Upon getting an MOT certificate the bikes can also be registered with the DVLA and thus now have all the requisite documentation to be eligible for road riding and thus insurance. Today you can easily find quad bikes that are already fitted out to be road legal or you can as easily find professionals who will fit the bike out for you.
Myth: 2
If they’re road legal, then any auto-insurer can insure my quad bike.
Fact:
Quad bikes require specific insurance cover meant for quad bikes provided by insurance companies that deal with quad bike insurance. Quad bikes are very different from normal vehicles and thus it takes a specialist of some sort to be able to judge what could go wrong with the bike and what can be insured. Like mentioned before – companies are hesitant to insure property they don’t know much about. You need to get your quad bike insured by specialists who KNOW quad bikes. The other advantage you have when you go to specialists is that these companies know that different bikes are built differently. Thus they will offer you insurance targeted specifically for your Suzuki Stinger or Yamaha Raptor.
Such insurance providers are easily found online and offer you a quote that meets your requirements within minutes of filling up a form and submitting details about the bike.
